hello,

I found a script that I can use to solve my problems. In the script there are rules like this one :

<xsl:if test="position() >= ($Page * $PageSize) + 1">

So the first part means if a variable test is equal to the position of a article. But what does the >= means here. I have googled but cannot find the answer.

> it's the HTML encoded version of (the same thing as) > greater than. Look here for all the codes.

So the whole sentence means something like this if test is equal to the position of a article and greater then $page * pagesize + 1

:-) ... The holy grail. Have a look.

So it will be if postition of a article is greater then $page * pagesize + 1

Yes, it will.

Thanks, Case closed.

Seriously!?

Roelof, I notice you've now become the most active Symphony user.

This is a feat in itself, and I applaud your zeal to become more familiar with Symphony, but might I suggest you try and look for a solution to your issues a little harder before posting (and cross/double-posting) on this forum?

This is a very friendly and helpful community and I feel questions such as this one are not of much help to others. They mostly take up precious time of others while you could have found the answer easily yourself I think.

I understand and struggle with this myself: because this community is so friendly and responsive it is tempting to 'dump' every question you come acros. I would like to ask you, however, to refrain from this and take a bit more time looking for an answer before posting yet another post. Also: try to think how much your question/topic could benefit other users. Thanks

I take your point. I had a idea that gt means greater then but I found it wierd that first there was a equal to and later a greater then sign. So i asked.

I know, I know !!!!!

Here it is ... :) --> Our friend, Google. <--

So i asked.

Here is a small guide on how to use this helpful community. If you find yourself asking "I don't understand this, I need help", try the following steps:

1) Try to find the category of your question. Is it specifically related to Symphony (events, datasources, pages, sections, PHP errors, etc), or does it involve more abstract techniques like HTML, XML, XSLT?

Just a hint: Most questions you ask are related to common techniques like XML / XSLT and are not Symphony specific.

2) Ask yourself if you feel to be well equipped for the adventure you're on. If you have no experience with XML / XSLT: buy a book, follow an (online) training program, or ask your computer savvy nephew / neighbor / friend to teach you the basics. It might cost some money, but hey, this is something you want right, so why not invest in yourself?

Just a hint: ask yourself, how did all those people on the Symphony forum get this knowledge? They did not have an active Symphony forum to ask every small question. I can tell you: it took most of them time, lots of time, to read documentation, learn by example, or just bluntly go and trial-and-error through the pain.

Which brings us to the next step:

3) Use the Internet wisely: A lot of people took the time to write blog posts, create websites like experts-exchange, eggheadcafe and stackoverflow or yahoo answers / google discussions. There is tons of information out there. Learn yourself how to ask the right questions to Google. Because most questions are not Symphony specific, you will find that there is a lot of information if you know where to look. Learn yourself how to yield the search engines. It is time well spent.

4) If all else fails: go ahead an ask... but do so on the right forum (see step 1)! Is this a Symphony related question feel free to pick our brains! If not, try posting your question on stackoverflow, experts-exchange, yahoo answers, google discussions. There are more sources out there!

Please print this list and hang it on your monitor so you will be remember next time you want to start a new thread.

Oh, and on a side-note: you've been asked multiple times by community members to A) stop starting a thread with "hello" B) stop ending a thread with "Roelof"

You've replied that you consider this to be polite, yet, please understand that it is just as rude to ignore the social rules of this forum, especially after you've been asked explicitly to conform.

Point taken. I will look with Google first for finding answers and will ask xml and xslt questions at the apporiate forum.

@roelof - You might consider reading through some of these tutorials so you can get a good grasp on XSLT...

I've found these resources very, very helpful.
