As far as I can see there’s no way to add help text to your Section’s Fields apart from adding it to the Label itself or using something like the Documenter extension.

E.g. (with Text Input type)

Field Label: Your website
Field: [________________]
Field Help Text: Make sure to add http:// e.g.: http://nu.nl

This is a small issue but it would be nice to be able to add a brief help text (text input) to a Field. It seems trivial to implement.

Does the Publish Notes Field extension meet your requirements?

It’s a good suggestion, and I think it’s in the core for Symphony 3; at least, you can specify a backend label that is different to the field name itself. In Symphony 2 you’re best off with the Publish Notes field fo’ sho’.

@klaftertief Well, it would obviously work, just like the Documenter extension.

But the Publish Notes Field extension, just as the Documenter extension, is coupled to a Section rather than its Field. It seems to me to be a little overkill to include such a ‘broad’ extension for something like field ‘tips’ that I would need on a few fields only…

IMHO this is something that should be tightly coupled to the field itself. It’s more of a basic attribute of a field, just like its label.

(@Nick, you commented just before I did ;-) )

Good to hear that it (or something like it) is in the S3 core. For now I’ll have to work around it with some extension. I might even think about developing an extension myself specifically coupled to the Fields (if that’s even possible). It might be a good intro into developing Symphony extensions…

David, that would be great. Please keep us up-to-date! :)

@eKoeS

Will do with the disclaimer that I’m not much of a backend developer and I’m just wrapping my head around XSLT (see what I did there :))

I’ve just started to build a first site with Symphony but I’m really, really, happy with the system and the S. community so far.
