I just tried upgrading to 2.1 from 2.0.8RC3 and for the most part it went smoothly (needed to install the correct extensions to the 2.1 build). But when I went to modify my sections, i got this error:

Table 'sym_db.sym_fields_stage' doesn't exist

this is the backtrace i get on the error page:

[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.mysql.php:267] MySQL->__error();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.mysql.php:305] MySQL->query();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.mysql.php:333] MySQL->fetch();
[/site.com/extensions/subsectionmanager/fields/field.subsectionmanager.php:123] MySQL->fetchRow();
[/site.com/symphony/content/content.blueprintssections.php:391] fieldSubsectionmanager->displaySettingsPanel();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.administrationpage.php:119] contentBlueprintsSections->__viewEdit();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.administrationpage.php:96] AdministrationPage->__switchboard();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/toolkit/class.administrationpage.php:81] AdministrationPage->view();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/core/class.administration.php:88] AdministrationPage->build();
[/site.com/symphony/lib/core/class.administration.php:204] Administration->__buildPage();
[/site.com/index.php:25] Administration->display();

and indeed, looking at my db, the sym_fields_stage does not exist and i ran the update.php.

EDIT seems to be an issue with the way i moved the subsectionmanager extension over to this new build, not anything with symphony - didn’t read the backtrace closely enough initially…which i just remembered Nils already pointed out =). renaming this thread to be more accurate
