Hi,

I have tried to install both the unique upload field and uploadify extensions with no success. I have placed both of the respective folders within the “extensions” folder (with the other preloaded extensions), but when I go to the Extensions part of my backend, neither one is showing up. I went ahead and restarted the server, but that did not help. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Adam

Adam,

What is the name of the folders for those extensions?

Hi Adam,

One quick thing to check, if you’ve downloaded the extensions from GitHub through the website as a zip or tar (rather than cloning them using Git on your server) you’ll need to rename the extensions’ folders , deleting the extra stuff github puts on there. for instance “michael-e-uniqueuploadfield-1.0-6-gaffc968” needs to just be “uniqueuploadfield”.

“michael-e-uniqueuploadfield-affc968” and “nickdunn-uploadify-deeefbe”. I actually renamed “nickdunn-uploadify-deeefbe” to “uploadify” but that didn’t help. Thanks man!

I did download them as .zip files. I just cut off the excess, but still no dice.

Should I try the Git route? Thanks Andrew!

You should be fine downloading the zip files.

If you have Git on your destination server & are otherwise comfortable with it, I think it’s alot less trouble then downloading the zip from Github. Also, Github has had some trouble with creating incomplete archives in the past, though I haven’t run into that lately.

I had two instances of symphony running (I forgot about the other one) and I inadvertently stuck the extensions in the instance I was not using!!! I placed them in the correct folder and, well, they worked :> I’ll get there…

Thanks for the help!

No problem. :)

It’s a good question to have answered on the forum, since it really isn’t abundantly evident you have to rename the ext. folders.

I’ve done that myself before… Facepalm

I've just been turning around that for a while...

When i put the extensions without renaming it in the directory, i couldn't connect to the backend anymore.

It may be interesting to add this to the documentation about extension installation http://symphony-cms.com/learn/tasks/view/install-an-extension/

and, why not, to explain to rename the directory on the readme doc of the extensions.

When I started using Symphony five years ago, I new nothing about GIT. Now, I can assure you that learning it makes developing for Symphony CMS faster, better, and easier. It is most worth the time and effort to learn.

ProGit is a free online resource that is tremendous for running git through the CLI.

@nickdunn and @bzerangue are two that I know who use GUI for their GIT repos.

GitHub, where most around here store their repos, has a very good help section as well.

Thanks a lot for your advise and the links. I've just tried today to learn about Git. It's now running on my mac. I dont' now why, I still can't clone a directory. It may be because of my connexion. I'll try elsewhere for it.

But at first I didn't wanted to wait for it before trying Symphony.
