Great to see: Alistair is speeding Symphony up! With this commit (which I simply copied to a running Symphony 2.0.7 website) I have seen a more than 40 percent decrease in page building time on the slowest pages of the site!

(It should be noted that Symphony 2.0.7 even by default is significantly faster than 2.0.6, thanks to Nick Dunn’s changes in database request logic which have been implemented. Together with this commit, it makes an even bigger difference.)

Woah, brilliant!

And if the 5-second delay on DOMContentLoaded for pages created with symphony bug can be addressed (which is more perceived performance than actual performance) then 2.0.8 will be gas!.

Yeah, this was a pretty massive thing to discover, and we are very happy that Symphony could be sped up so much with such a minor change. The improvement is more impressive for bigger sites. We’ve seen as high as a 57% improvement. The more code there is (datasources, events, extensions etc), the more times that particular function is called.

Also there are some cool updates on the next major version like having only one instance of “manager” classes. Awesome!

I keep hearing about 2.0.8, is there any word on when we can look for it?

I know the Symphony team doesn’t like to have launch dates but a rough ball-park estimate would be handy.

This is brilliant. We launched an update of our department’s website today (moving from Symphony 2 beta to 2.0.7) which suffered of long loading times on some pages. With this fix our site is running faster than ever!

Wow, would that work for a 2.0.6 install as well?

See here.

Ok thanks, I guess I’ll need an update then ;)
