Symphony.

Two features I would love to see in the Symphony core:

1. section duplication and
2. section cloning.

While there is an extension for the first one, the second could offer some new possibilities: clones should always be structured exactly the same so that adding a field to one clone will add it to all clones. Same with removing or renaming fields. This could be extremely helpful for sites that need multiple sections with the same structure.

Just as an idea …

Thumbs up for the integration of this features in the Shymphony core.

Symphony 2.1 will store sections as XML files, so duplication should be easy peasy. Maybe not feature of the core, but the simple functionality could be provided by an extension.

I guess what Nils means is section duplication (getting an independent copy) or section cloning (getting a copy which will always have the same fields and field configuration in the future).

Yes I think we are talking about section duplication, and I think could be great to have a page duplication too.

I think these are functions better provided by extensions, as Nick suggests, rather than in the core.

The now-defunct Page Templates extension used to do something like this for Pages. I’ve been thinking about how to build a successor to that extension that’s a little more widely applicable throughout the system. Very tough UI-wise, but we’ve introduced a little wrinkle in 2.1 that might make it easier.
