I know rowan whipped up a quick extension last week to allow the internal entry ID to be visible. Not sure if he plans to release it yet though.

Edit: yay it’s been released

Is there any more scope for a number increment field which has a configurable start number? or would Order Entries work in this situation? I'm refering to what Lewis was talking about. Rather than using System:id which works great by the way..along with the reflection field.

There has been instances where an increment field that starts from a pre-defined integer would have even more use for my site builds.. thoughts anyone?

I have an Incremental Number field floating around somewhere that increments from a specified number, so it can be used with an ordering system.

You specify the start number (0, or 10000 for instance) and it will count up from there on every entry saved to that section.

I'll clean it up and post it as it is quite useful.

Note: I also had a chat with Nick about field names, as there would be some confusion between his and mine, I saw his more as a View Counter or something similar, where as mine is definitively an Incremental Number...

Yeah man, that's kinda what I'm after. Yes, with regards to Nicks field, I use it as a page view counter for jobs listings.. so there is a definite difference in requirements.. the one you mention is more useful from an ordering point of view..

I'm sort of building a basis for a CRM and each department use a JOB-ID in an excel sheet at present, so I'd want to transfer the most recent JOB ID into the system to ensure the increment is a seamless transition into Symphony. Have been looking at count() in XSLT but not getting very far this morning :)

It should be done by Friday then. I'm a little busy but can slot it in, it's just a clean up and README that needs doing ;)

No rush man, appreciate you pushing it out into the wild!

It's been a while but any news on this auto incrementing number field? I am also in need of a Number field that increments with every new entry.

You're in luck: John has an Incremental Number field which is subtly different from the Increment Number extension. Explanation in: How to add an auto incrementing "subscription id" to my section.

As there's enough need for this, it is released into the wild

W00t! This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks guys!
